InterLibrary Loan: FAQ
What is ILL?
ILL is a service provided for students, faculty, and staff to provide access to books and journal articles not owned by Woodbury University.

Is it free?
Most libraries do not charge a fee for this service. However, sometimes an item is rare or unusual and the lender requires a fee. If this is the case, we must ask you to reimburse us for the cost. We will always try to find the least expensive lender, and will notify you of any cost before we proceed. Note – You are also responsible for any overdue fines or charges for lost/damaged materials.

Can I order textbooks for my classes?
No. Textbooks may not be ordered through InterLibrary Loan.

How do I use ILL?
You now have several options for completing an ILL request. You may complete a hard copy Interlibrary Loan Request Form either by picking up a form from the library's circulation desk or by printing the .pdf version available from the main InterLibrary Loan Website. After completing the form, you may either:

1. Hand it in at the circulation desk, or
2. You may fax it in to the library at: 818.767.4534.

Another option is to fill out an online form, also available from the InterLibrary Loan Website. This form will be emailed to the interlibrary loan liason who will email you back upon its receipt. If you do not receive a confirmation of receipt, please contact the liason via email (ILL@woodbury.edu), or complete the hard copy of the form and follow the steps listed above.

How long will it take to get my book/article?
Delivery time may take up to 2 weeks or longer, depending on availability of the item and the processing speed of the lending institution. Woodbury University Library will contact you regarding the status of your request.

When do I have to return my book/article?
Articles come in photocopy format, so you can keep them.
Book due dates vary depending on the lending institution, but you will generally have at least 2 weeks. Simply return your book to Woodbury University Library and we will take care of the rest.

The fine for overdue Interlibrary Loan materials is $1.00 per day with a maximum fine of $25.00 per item.

What if I just want to browse through a journal that we do not own?
ILL requires you to specify an article title, author, publication title, date, number, and issue. The National ILL Code restricts us from borrowing entire issues.

What if I need something right away?
We are fortunate to be near many excellent libraries, most of which will allow you to photocopy their materials. Check local availability of any item via WorldCat (instructions below)
