Banker V. Charles Jackson, Accountant C. Edward Spiegel Join Woodbury University Board of Trustees (Burbank, CA July 30, 2003) Woodbury University today announced the appointment of banker V. Charles Jackson and accountant C. Edward Spiegel to the Board of Trustees. Jackson is president, chief executive officer and member of the board of directors of Community Bank in Pasadena. He has more than 25 years of management experience in commercial banking, private banking, and investment management and has previously held senior positions with Lipper & Co., Mellon Financial Group, Chase Manhattan Bank and Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust. Jackson currently serves on the board of The Athenaeum Fund, a Pasadena venture capital limited partnership that provide seed funding, management and marketing skills to start-up companies. He is also the chairman of the dean's council at the Gvirtz Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Jackson has served on the board of The Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Company of California and the Los Angeles Master Chorale, one of the operating companies of the Los Angeles Music Center. A Woodbury alumnus, Spiegel is president of Cast & Crew, a provider of payroll and talent services to the entertainment industry. Since his arrival in 1990, the company produced a new payroll system and new production accounting software and opened offices in New York, Toronto and Vancouver in addition to its Burbank headquarters. Total annual volume has increased from $200 million to over $1.5 billion, with net income increasing commensurately. Prior to joining Cast & Crew, Spiegel was a partner in the firm of Levin, Cooper, Spiegel & Co., then one of the largest local accounting firms in Los Angeles. Throughout his accounting career, Spiegel has been an active participant in the California Society of CPAs, serving on local and statewide committees, including the Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards Committee. He also prepared educational material, made presentations to accounting groups and other organizations and participated in many community and philanthropic activities. Founded in 1884, Woodbury University is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Southern California. An accredited, nonprofit university, Woodbury is located on a 22-acre residential campus in Burbank and offers bachelor's degrees from the School of Architecture and Design, Business and Management, and Arts and Sciences. Woodbury also offers a master of business administration as well as weekend and evening study for working adults. A San Diego campus was established in 1998 to offer bachelor of architecture degrees.
