Woodbury University to Honor Larry and Sue Stamper as 'Movers and Shapers' of Burbank

(Burbank, CA ­ October 1, 2003) Larry and Sue Stamper are the recipients of the second annual Woodbury University Movers and Shapers Awards that recognize outstanding volunteer service to Burbank and its residents by members of the community. Since moving to Burbank 31 years ago, the Stampers have played an active role in civic, philanthropic and spiritual activities.

The two will be honored Sunday, October 19 during a special ceremony from 2 to 4 p.m. at the New Woody's in Cabrini Hall, Woodbury University, 7500 Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank.

"Larry and Sue have enriched the Burbank community through their selfless generosity of time and spirit," says James Dean, D.Min., vice president for university advancement. "They are truly movers of the community and shapers of the future of our community and its residents."

Sue Stamper has been active with the United Methodist Women, The National Charity League, P.E.O., Burbank Sister City Committee, San Fernando Valley Girl Scouts, Zoma and Noon Rotary. She has been an active board member and participant in the Burbank YMCA since 1993 and has been involved in numerous Woodbury activities. She is a vice president at First State Bank in Burbank. A talented musician, Sue plays the violin, piano and organ. She is also a vocalist who sings at weddings, memorial services and other special events. The Oklahoma native attended Point Loma College.

Larry Stamper is well known in the community as the pastor of Burbank First United Methodist Church. He is a member of the Burbank Community Hospital Foundation and serves on the board of directors of Wesley Homes, senior retirement homes sponsored by the United Methodist Church. Larry was elected to the Burbank City Council during the 1980s and served as mayor from 1983 to 1984. He is a member and past-president of the Burbank Kiwanis Club and serves on the board of governors for Goodwill Industries. He was chaplain for the Burbank Police Department for 14 years. Larry has long been associated with Woodbury and received an honorary doctor of letters from the university in 1992. He earned a bachelor's degree from Point Loma College and a master's degree from Claremont School of Theology.

The Stampers have been married for 47 years and are the parents of three children. They have five grandchildren.
