More than 500 guests attended the 39th annual gala fashion show at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Coty Award-winning designer Gustave Tassell, whose contributions to Jacqueline Kennedy's wardrobe are currently being exhibited in Paris at the Louvre in Jacqueline Kennedy: the White House Years, received the Woodbury Design Award. Woodbury also honored the creative collaboration of Hutton Wilkinson and the late Tony Duquette with the Style Award. Architectural photographer Julius Shulman loaned his famous image of Case Study House No. 22 for the Woodbury show. Amber Benson, who plays Tara in the UPN series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," was mistress of ceremonies. Metropolo is the story of the City of Angels coming into its own as America's other great city. In the new climate of a media savvy Camelot at the dawn of the 1960s, Los Angeles would emerge unchallenged as the nation's media capital and the embodiment of mid-century values and Modernist style. Gucci creative director Tom Ford has referred to the style of mid-century modern Los Angeles as "the style of today." The annual event represents the interdisciplinary resources of Woodbury's School of Architecture and Design. Proceeds fund scholarships for deserving fashion design students and benefit Woodbury's vintage fashion collection. Wells Fargo was a distinguished benefactor of the 2003 show.
