Douglas J. Cremer, Ph.D., Chair of Natural and Social Sciences The Politics & History major focuses on the development of human societies and political organizations, emphasizing the ways cultural practices, economic structures, social organizations and political institutions rise and fall over time. The major is also a part of a program of law school preparation, designed in consultation with Los Angeles area law schools, leading to graduate education for a career in the legal field. Graduates interested in professions in the diplomatic corps, government service at the local, state or national level, and non-profit organizations would find this major highly advantageous. The major prepares students to analyze systematically the way individuals and societies construct cultural norms, allocate political power, exploit economic resources and develop ideological perspectives. These skills will be applied through a practical internship in a variety of possible settings: political campaigns, law offices, local museums, government offices and public-service ventures among others. A minor in business is recommended, but another minor that meets individual student career goals may be chosen. A major in Politics & History will prepare students for careers or further graduate education in one of the most complex and challenging areas of human activity. STUDENT COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS Students are responsible for obtaining their own ISP and email accounts. Notebooks or Desktops used on campus should be equipped with a Network LAN Card. Following are the requirements for the School of Arts and Sciences; "Minimum hardware" is the minimum configuration which will run currently used department or school software.
