Woodbury University offers a four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program with a major in Fashion Design. The program is tailored to meet the needs of students wishing to enter the challenging and exciting world of the fashion professional. The curriculum emphasizes research, critical and creative thinking, and strong technical skills. Freshman students may enter with no previous training; transfer students should submit samples of their work for placement evaluation. Courses are taught by fashion design educators and industry professionals. Fundamental skill areas include drawing, pattern drafting, draping, apparel construction, as well as fashion history and textiles. Studio classes include leading categories of women’s wear, men’s wear, and children’s wear, knitwear, active wear, and swimwear. Courses are offered in millinery, shoe design, costume construction and other specialized areas. Computer assisted design is integrated into the program. The creative work of the fashion design students is showcased in Woodbury University’s Annual Fashion Show. The Woodbury University Fashion Collection, consisting of over 1,000 garments which represent the clothing history of the past 150 years, is available as a resource to fashion and costume design students. Career options are many, including fashion design, manufacturing, production, fashion illustration, fashion styling, costume design and textile design. Woodbury's location in the hub of the Southern California fashion and entertainment industries provides students with unique field trip, internship and work experience opportunities. Minors are available in Business, Costume Design, Fashion Marketing and Graphic Design.
