Robert A. Schultz, Ph.D., Department Chair Since 1945, computer-based information systems have become an integral part of most organizations. In the years ahead there will be great demand for trained computer information systems professionals--people who can design systems and procedures for many kinds of organizations. Woodbury University has developed a four-year, career-oriented academic program for prospective information system professionals. In addition to this, qualified students may be able to take advantage of accelerated programs with other schools to earn both the Bachelor of Science degree from Woodbury and a related Master's degree in five years. Please contact the department chair for further information. Woodbury's multi-environment laboratories and open-laboratory policy provide the student with accessible Macintosh computers and PCs. Industry standard software packages are updated regularly. The laboratories have full Internet connectivity. Hands-on practical learning is emphasized throughout the program. Classes are small and interactive; the full-time and adjunct faculty practice in the fields in which they teach. Students may have hands-on experience as technical assistants in the Woodbury Computer Laboratories or as interns with local industries, such as entertainment. Woodbury's compact size lends itself to the flexibility needed to respond to rapid technological change. Woodbury has been able to offer courses in emerging technologies such as LANs, CASE tools and integration very soon after their importance was recognized. Woodbury students have won national awards in competitions in some of these areas. WORK EXPERIENCE/INTERNSHIP Prior to graduation, candidates for the Bachelor of Science Computer Information Systems must complete 150 hours of work in the offices of an approved Information Systems facility. This work should be completed in the third and fourth years of residence. Such work may be eligible for credit as an Internship, CI 490, at the rate of 50 hours of work for each unit of credit. If credit is granted, it counts toward the CIS major elective requirement. STUDENT COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS Students are required to supply their own computer (preferably notebook), as well as e-mail accounts and internet access. Notebooks or desktops used on campus should be equipped with a Network LAN Card. Following are the requirements for the School of Business and Management. "Minimum hardware" is minimum configuration which will run currently used department or school software.
