Elisabeth Sandberg, Ph.D., Chair of Humanities Communication is a generalist, interdisciplinary major with a strong foundation in the liberal arts that focuses on methods of communication as they relate to public and media relations, law, politics, teaching, marketing, advertising, education/consulting services, workplace training, media relations, public speaking, social services and business administration. The major blends theoretical knowledge with practical experience culminating in a four-year bachelor of science degree. The curriculum emphasizes a professional approach to the study of communication by integrating courses in analysis and persuasion, writing, design, principles of marketing, business practices and cultural patterns. Students gain practical experience through a supervised internship at a professional site. Embedded in the major is a fifteen-unit minor. Although students may choose from any of the currently offered minors, they are recommended to minor in either marketing or graphic design. A graphic minor develops students' ability to evaluate communication problems, produce creative analyses and create or direct visual solutions. A marketing minor introduces students to all activities required to direct the flow of products, services and commercially-related ideas from producers to consumers. The program develops analytical, communication, and presentation skills that prepare graduates to enter diverse professional careers. STUDENT COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS Students are responsible for obtaining their own ISP and email accounts. Notebooks or Desktops used on campus should be equipped with a Network LAN Card. Following are the requirements for the School of Arts and Sciences; "Minimum hardware" is the minimum configuration which will run currently used department or school software.
